Program Overview

The Japan Global Arts Scholarship is a comprehensive program designed to support talented individuals in the visual and performing arts. We offer a unique blend of financial aid, expert mentorship, and deep cultural immersion. Our goal is to provide scholars with the resources and environment they need to flourish creatively and professionally.

Eligibility Criteria

We welcome applications from passionate artists who meet the following general criteria:

• Demonstrated talent and potential in their chosen field of art.
• Openness to new cultural experiences and a desire to learn about Japanese art and society.
• A strong portfolio showcasing their work and artistic vision.
• Applicants must be between 18 and 35 years of age at the time of application (specific age ranges may vary for certain disciplines).
• Citizenship of one of our eligible partner countries (currently India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, China, Malaysia).
• Proficiency in English is required as some workshops and collaborations may be conducted in English. Basic Japanese language skills are a plus but not mandatory for application.

What the Scholarship Covers

JGAS aims to alleviate financial burdens so scholars can focus on their artistic development. The scholarship typically includes:

• Full or partial coverage of tuition fees at affiliated Japanese art institutions or workshops.
• A monthly stipend to assist with living expenses in Japan.
• Funding for art supplies and project materials.
• Round-trip airfare to Japan from the scholar's home country.
• Support for Japanese language classes, if desired.
• Opportunities to exhibit work and participate in collaborative projects.

Application Process

The application process is conducted online through our portal. Generally, it involves the following steps:

1. Online Application Form: Complete the detailed application form on our Apply Page.
2. Portfolio Submission: Upload a digital portfolio of your best work as per the guidelines.
3. Personal Statement: Submit an essay outlining your artistic goals, why you wish to study in Japan, and how JGAS will help you achieve your aspirations.
4. Letters of Recommendation: Provide references from teachers, mentors, or professionals who can speak to your talent and character.
5. Review & Shortlisting: Our panel of experts reviews all applications. Shortlisted candidates may be invited for an online interview.
6. Final Selection & Notification: Successful applicants are notified, and preparations for their journey to Japan begin.
